Blue

Blue (Serigraph, 2000)
printmaking

I've always been a big fan of blue. It can work as both a calming, soothing color and an overwhelmingly depressing shade of sadness. It's the only thing in the world that can successfully bridge the gap between happiness, childhood, and popsicles, with loneliness, the end of life and suicide. The only real visual cue in this print is the thin, tire tread-style lines that carry through the giant blue mass, evenly spaced with no signs of slowing down. I think I was in the process of re-reading The Maxx at the time I was creating this, and was inspired by the scene where a young Julie discovers a rabbit that had just lost a limb to a speeding vehicle on the highway. This reads like alien roadkill to me.
