One thing I've always been fascinated with (and I'm sure this is something you'll notice yourself, if you click through a couple more photos) is smoke-stained, mortar-bleeding, still-inhabited old buildings and architectural structures. I've always seen some sort of hidden beauty in these leftover monuments to a previous generation, and would often go through more film than I could really afford, just wandering through old alleyways and shooting whatever looked interesting to me. I was fortunate to have grown up Noblesville, Indiana, a city whose downtown area was blessed with an abundance of these not-quite-derelict old buildings and a noticable shortage of questionable characters hanging around behind them. It's provided me with some really nice visuals.
